September 2017

Dear Parents,
We are off to a great start!   Meet the Teacher night, Open House and our PTA Pep Rally were crowded with parents and families. We enjoyed visiting with you and look forward to a year of partnership that helps each of our students develop their full potential.
Athletic activities are in full swing with our first girls’ volleyball game on September 5th at Fifth Ward at 4pm and our first football game away at Fifth Ward on September 7th at 6pm.   Our first home football game will be on September 14th at 6:30pm. PTA will sell spirit items on football game days.  Spirit ribbons and face tattoos are $1 and bracelets are $3.  This organization works hand in hand with our teachers and administrators to promote a safe and successful learning environment for our students.  Please consider joining and supporting our PTA.
Other important dates to remember include 3rd grade family breakfast on Thursday, September 21st and 1st grade family breakfast on Wednesday, September 27th.  Breakfast events begin at 8:15 AM in the cafeteria.  Tuesday, September 12th, will be fall picture day for PK – 6th grade.  More information will be sent home with your child.  The calendar included has a more complete listing of important dates.
Please consider allowing your child to ride the bus to and from school.  Students who ride the bus are never counted tardy to school! If you must use carline, please understand that there will be a wait. Remember, the gates are locked at 7:55am.  You will need to proceed to the front bus port after that time. If you have an appointment, please park in the visitors’ parking spaces in the front of the school. Under no circumstances should students ever walk across carline.
Traditionally, we have had a Fall fundraiser that included selling wrapping paper and other catalog items and a Spring cookie dough fundraiser.  This year we are hoping to be able to eliminate these by doing an ongoing t-shirt sale and selling Americas Finest chocolate instead.  A t-shirt order form is included.
There is another simple and free way you can support our school.  A mailbox is located in the main entrance where students can leave box top labels, community coffee labels and coke product lids and labels which contain a code inside.  LRS can submit these labels and codes for cash reimbursements to use toward educational experiences for our students.

Have a wonderful September!  We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events.

Warm regards,

Kalinda Fauntleroy
