March 2018

Dear Parents,

The school year is flying by; third quarter exams for junior high students are Monday, March 5th through Thursday, March 8th and there is no school for students on Friday, March 9th as teachers have professional development and time for record keeping.  Reports cards will go home on March 16th and honor roll activities will be celebrated on March 23rd.

The month is full of spring sports activities. Please refer to the included calendar for game dates for baseball, softball, boys volleyball as well as track meets- Go Rebels!  We would also like to wish our band and choir the best of luck as they will be attending several competitions at the parish and district level this month. Our annual Spring Book Fair is the week of March 12th. On Tuesday, March 13th, in conjunction with a PTA meeting, the Book Fair will stay open late- until 6 pm.    Spring Picture Day for all grades will be on Tuesday, March 13th.  As a reminder, the company does not offer retakes for Spring pictures.   The Easter holiday begins on Friday, March 30th and school reopens on Monday, April 9th.

We would like to honor all of our volunteers for their contributions to our school this year.  If you have volunteered in any capacity, please join us for breakfast in the library at 8:15am on Wednesday, March 28th.

State testing begins April 9th and continues through May 4th. Students in 3rd and 4th grade will take paper and pencil tests, while students in 5th -8th grades will take computerized tests.   Below are testing dates:
8th grade: April 30-May 4
7th grade: April 23-27
6th grade: April 16-20
5th grade: April 9-13
3rd and 4th grade: April 30-May 4

Tests will be given during the morning; however, students who need extra time will be testing in the afternoons as well. Please do not plan to check your child out during this time.  It is critical that all students in grades 3-8 are present and testing during these times. If you have questions or concerns regarding these tests, please do not hesitate to contact me. There are several ways you can help your child practice for these tests. Our Lee Road website has many good suggestions under the Links tab.

It is hard to imagine, but we are already preparing schedules for the next year!  If you would like to make me aware of any special circumstances regarding your child’s learning style that would potentially impact their class placement for next year, please send that to me in writing before April 13, 2018.

Warm regards,

Kalinda Fauntleroy
